Founded in 2009 in Marlborough, Kimura Cellars is a small family winery dedicated to producing wines that express the distinctive character of New Zealand’s most renowned wine region. The estate was established by Japanese-born winemaker Toshiaki Kimura, whose passion for wine led him to New Zealand after studying viticulture and oenology in Germany.

Before founding his own winery, Kimura gained experience working at several wineries in Marlborough, developing a deep understanding of the region’s climate and vineyards. Inspired by the quality of the local terroir and the potential of Marlborough wines, he established Kimura Cellars with the goal of crafting small-production wines that highlight purity, balance and regional expression.

The winery sources grapes from carefully selected vineyard sites across Marlborough, with particular attention to vineyards managed under organic and sustainable farming practices. These vineyards benefit from the region’s cool maritime climate, abundant sunshine and well-drained soils, conditions that are ideal for producing expressive and aromatic wines.

In the cellar, the winemaking philosophy focuses on minimal intervention to preserve the natural character of the fruit. Gentle handling of the grapes, native fermentations where possible, and restrained use of oak allow the wines to reflect the freshness and vibrancy typical of Marlborough.

Kimura Cellars is best known for its Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, wines that combine bright aromatics with balance and finesse.
