Located in the historic village of Vosne-Romanée between Dijon and Beaune in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret is one of Burgundy’s long-established family estates. The village lies near renowned sites such as Château du Clos de Vougeot and Nuits-Saint-Georges, placing the domaine among some of the most historic vineyards of the region.

The Mongeard family has been rooted in Vosne-Romanée for more than eight generations, with records tracing their presence in the village back to 1620. Historical documents also show a Mongeard working as a vigneron for Domaine de la Romanée-Conti in 1786, reflecting the family’s longstanding connection with Burgundy’s most prestigious terroirs.

The modern domaine was shaped by Jean Mongeard, whose mother came from the Mugneret family. In 1945, at just sixteen years old, Jean took over the responsibility of making wine following the death of his father. That vintage was purchased by notable Burgundy figures including Henri Gouges and Baron Le Roy, Marquis d’Angerville, who encouraged him to bottle the wines himself rather than sell them in barrel. From that point, the estate adopted the name Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret.

In 1975, Jean’s son Vincent Mongeard joined the domaine and gradually assumed responsibility for vineyard management and winemaking. He expanded the estate and reinforced traditional Burgundian practices, including bottling the wines without filtration except in certain vintages. Following Jean’s retirement in 1995, Vincent took full leadership of the estate.

Today the domaine covers approximately 30 hectares of vineyards spread across 35 appellations throughout the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. While the estate produces both Chardonnay-based white Burgundies and Pinot Noir wines, it is particularly known for its red wines from prestigious terroirs of the Côte, reflecting the diversity and character of Burgundy’s historic climats while maintaining a strong respect for tradition.
