Domaine Courtault Michelet
Located in the heart of Chablis, Domaine Courtault-Michelet is a family estate led by Stéphanie Michelet and Vincent Michelet, representing the union of two generations of winemakers whose shared passion for the region’s unique terroir has shaped the identity of the domaine.
The estate originated from the merger of two family traditions. Alain and Lise Courtault established Domaine Courtault in 1984, building a foundation of vineyards across the Chablis appellation. In time, their daughter Stéphanie Michelet joined the domaine together with her husband Vincent Michelet, who brought additional experience gained from working in the Loire Valley, contributing new perspectives to the family winery.
Today the estate cultivates approximately 20 hectares of vineyards, covering the appellations of Petit Chablis, Chablis, and Chablis Premier Cru. The vineyards are planted on the region’s distinctive Kimmeridgian limestone soils, composed of marlstone and fossilised oyster shells that contribute to the characteristic minerality and tension associated with the wines of Chablis.
The philosophy of Domaine Courtault-Michelet centres on a deep respect for terroir, with the aim of producing wines that faithfully reflect their vineyard origins. In recent years, the estate has also moved towards more sustainable vineyard practices, incorporating many organic farming methods to promote biodiversity and vine health while adapting carefully to the climatic conditions of each vintage.
Through this balance of family tradition and thoughtful innovation, Domaine Courtault-Michelet continues to produce wines that express the distinctive character of Chablis and its historic terroirs.
