Founded in 2002 in southwestern Sardinia, Agricola Punica was created through a collaboration between Cantina Santadi, renowned Italian oenologist Giacomo Tachis, and the family of Marchese Nicolò Incisa della Rocchetta of Tenuta San Guido, the estate behind Sassicaia. The project was born from a shared ambition to elevate Sardinian wine by combining the island’s distinctive terroir with the expertise behind some of Italy’s most celebrated wines.

The origins of Agricola Punica trace back to the 1980s, when Antonello Pilloni, director of Cantina Santadi, sought Tachis’s advice as Sardinian producers began shifting their focus toward higher quality wines. Tachis immediately recognised the potential of Carignano, a grape variety well suited to the island’s climate and sandy soils, and saw in it the foundation for a new identity for Sardinian wines.

Located in the Sulcis region of southwestern Sardinia, the vineyards benefit from a warm Mediterranean climate, cooling sea breezes and mineral-rich soils. These conditions allow Carignano and other Mediterranean varieties to ripen fully while maintaining freshness and balance.

The winery produces several wines that highlight the character of the region. Barrua, the estate’s flagship wine, is a blend led by Carignano complemented by international varieties, combining depth, structure and elegance. Montessu, another key wine of the estate, reflects the traditional character of Sardinian grapes, offering a more approachable expression of the Sulcis terroir. Samas, a white wine made primarily from Vermentino with a touch of Chardonnay, captures the freshness and aromatic character of Sardinia’s coastal vineyards.

Through the guidance of Giacomo Tachis and the partnership with the Incisa della Rocchetta family, Agricola Punica has become one of the leading wineries in Sardinia, producing wines that combine local tradition with a modern and internationally recognised style.
